The transformative power of keeping promises we made to ourselves

Here’s how a simple idea has improved my self-confidence overtime: Keeping promises made to ourselves. 💪

How it looks like on a day-to-day:
In my case, if I tell myself that I’ll go for a jog today, even if it’s only for 10 minutes I’ll do it no matter what. If I promise to wake up an hour earlier, I’ll do my best not to hit the snooze button (OK, maybe I’ll hit it once).

The idea here is to take small steps towards our promises. Small steps lead to small wins, and when repeated consistently over time, will eventually lead to compounding improvements. Keywords to take note of: COMMITMENT TO SMALL CONSISTENT ACTIONS, and SMALL WINS.

When we honour promises made to ourselves, we will start to experience positive changes such as:

1. OVERCOMING PROCRASTINATION
Commiting to a promise instils a sense of responsibility and accountability. When we follow through on a commitment, we choose to move forward through small actions instead of deferring it.

2. BUILDING SELF-TRUST
Following through on a self-promise cultivates a sense of reliability within us to trust in our own capabilities.

3. IMPROVING OUR OVERALL WELL-BEING
As we witness the results from our consistent efforts, we’re likely to experience an uplift in mood, motivation, and overall well-being.

In closing, incorporating this habit into our life is not difficult. it all starts with taking consistent baby steps. 👣

“Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become. No single instance will transform your beliefs, but as the votes build up, so does the evidence of your new identity.” – James Clear, author of Atomic Habits.
